How to Send Photos to Fulton County Jail in Atlanta

How to send photos to Fulton County Jail in Atlanta: the P.O. box for personal mail, the ID number to use, tablet delivery and tips to avoid returned mail.October 10, 2026

To send photos to someone in Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, mail them to the jail's mail processing address, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131, with "Fulton County Jail, GA" and the person's name and ID number. Since May 15, 2024, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office has delivered personal mail, including pictures, digitally on the jail's tablets instead of handing over the paper.

That address surprises a lot of families, so below is the exact format from the sheriff's office, the ID number you need, what your loved one actually sees and how to avoid having your mail sent back.

Mailing address for photos

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office jail page gives one P.O. box in Maryland for personal mail to all three Fulton County jail locations. The first line names the jail, so it can be routed to the right place.

For the main jail on Rice Street in Atlanta:

Fulton County Jail, GA
[Full name], #[Inmate ID Number]
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

For the Marietta Annex:

Fulton Marietta Annex, GA
[Full name], #[Inmate ID Number]
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

For the jail in Union City:

Fulton Union City Jail, GA
[Full name], #[Inmate ID Number]
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

Add your full return address in the top left corner.

You'll still see 901 Rice Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 in a lot of places. The sheriff's office says legal mail and checks, money orders and cashier's checks should still go to the facility, but personal mail, which includes pictures, goes to the P.O. box above.

Our pages for Fulton County Jail and the South Fulton Municipal Regional Jail in Union City show the latest details we have. For every other jail and prison in the state, see our Georgia page. If your loved one is in a city jail or another county's jail in metro Atlanta, the rules are different, so check that facility's page.

The ID number you need

The sheriff's example address shows the person's name followed by an inmate identifier, written with a pound sign (#000123456 in their example). Elsewhere on the same page, the sheriff's office asks for the person's SO number when you send money.

To find your loved one's number:

  • Use the sheriff's office online jail search with their full legal name.
  • Ask your loved one for it on a call.
  • Copy the number exactly, including any leading zeros.

Our guide on how to find an inmate ID number explains official searches and locators step by step.

Photo rules

The sheriff's office jail page confirms that personal mail includes "letters, pictures, and drawings," but it doesn't publish a detailed list of photo rules. Rules can change, so we keep the details we use on our Fulton County Jail page. These are the basics:

  • Size: Standard 4x6 prints.
  • Number: Our facility page lists up to 10 photos per envelope. We split bigger orders into more envelopes.
  • Content: No nudity or sexual content, gang signs, weapons, drugs or money. Mailrooms nearly everywhere reject these.

Because pictures are shown on a tablet screen, choose photos that are bright, in focus and easy to read: faces up close, kids' artwork, a pet, the house, a new baby. Our post on what photos are allowed in prison and jail has more ideas.

What your loved one receives

Since May 15, 2024, the sheriff's office says all personal mail from family and friends, such as letters, pictures and drawings, is delivered digitally through the "Facility Messages" app on the jail's tablets, under the free profile.

That means your loved one sees your photos as images on a tablet, not as paper prints in their hand. It's still worth sending them. Seeing a familiar face, a new haircut or the dog on the couch still means a lot. Before you pay, our checkout shows you what the person will receive at their facility.

The sheriff's office also mentions that friends and family can send messages and photos to the tablets through the jail's messaging service for a per-message fee. Mail is the option that doesn't need an account with that service.

Step by step

  1. Find the ID number and confirm which Fulton location your loved one is in.
  2. Choose your photos. Pick clear, appropriate images.
  3. Crop them to 4x6.
  4. Address the envelope with the right jail name on the first line ("Fulton County Jail, GA," "Fulton Marietta Annex, GA" or "Fulton Union City Jail, GA"), then the name and ID number, then P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131.
  5. Add your return address.
  6. Mail it, and allow time for the processing center to deliver it to the tablet.

Or let us handle it. With InmatePics, you upload photos from your phone, pick your loved one's facility and enter their ID number. Our printing and mailing partners print real 4x6 photos, and every order is addressed and packed the way the facility requires and split into envelopes it accepts. It's $0.99 per print plus $4.99 per envelope, with no subscription, so 10 photos in one envelope cost $14.89. We remove location data from your photos and delete them once your order is done.

Tips to avoid returned mail

  • Don't send personal mail to Rice Street. Since the switch to digital mail, use the P.O. box in Phoenix, Maryland.
  • Don't send money to the P.O. box. Checks and money orders still go to the facility.
  • Name the right jail on the first line of the address.
  • Include the ID number, written exactly as the jail shows it.
  • Keep it plain. No stickers, glitter, glue or anything attached to the photos.
  • Check custody first. People in county jail are released, transferred or sent to state prison often.
