What InmatePics collects, why, who it's shared with, and how long we keep it. Your photos are never public.Last updated October 9, 2026

Sending photos to someone inside is personal. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do to protect it. The short version: we collect only what's needed to get your photos delivered, we never publish anything about you or the person you're sending to, and we delete your photos after your order is done.

What we collect

About you

  • Your name, email address and mailing address. Facilities can ask who sent a piece of mail, and when we mail an order ourselves your name and address are the return address.
  • Your order history and messages you send us.
  • Payment details are handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and limited card details (such as the last four digits), never your full card number.

About the person you're sending to

  • Their name, the facility they're held at, and the ID number and housing unit the facility needs on mail (for example a Register Number or an A-Number).
  • For federal prisons, when you use "Look up", we check the Bureau of Prisons' public inmate locator to confirm their name and facility.
  • For youth facilities, the confirmation you give about your relationship and permission to contact them.

We don't ask for dates of birth, charges, or other details we don't need for mail.

Your photos

  • The photos you upload and how you cropped them. We remove hidden location data (GPS) and other metadata from every photo when you upload it.

Using the site

  • Basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, used to keep the service secure and working. We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your order while you build it.

How we use it

  • To print your photos, address the envelopes correctly and mail them.
  • To process payments and refunds, and to send you receipts and order updates.
  • To check facility rules and where someone is held, so mail isn't returned.
  • To prevent fraud and misuse, and to meet legal obligations.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use your photos for advertising or for training any system.

Who we share it with

  • Printing and mailing partners who produce and send your order, only as needed to do so.
  • Stripe, our payment processor.
  • Email and hosting providers that run our service for us.
  • The facility you're sending to, through the mail itself: the recipient's details appear on the envelope, along with either your name and address or our printing partner's as the return address, and facilities inspect incoming mail.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it.

Shared details about people in custody are never published. Unlike some services, we don't make public pages about individuals.

How long we keep it

  • Photos are deleted 90 days after your order is mailed, refunded or cancelled. Photos in an order you never placed are deleted after 30 days.
  • Order records (what was sent, where, and payment) are kept as long as we need them for accounting, refunds and legal obligations.
  • Your account stays until you delete it. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can see your orders in your account, and you can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws; we honor them.

Children

InmatePics is for adults. Senders must be 18 or older. Some recipients are minors held in youth facilities; we keep their records private to the person who sent to them and use them only to deliver that person's mail.

Security

Photos and records are stored privately, sent over encrypted connections, and only accessible to staff and partners who need them to fulfil your order.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be emailed to you.
